Hello, I’m Helen

I’m a writer and scientist based in Dharug and Gundgarra country (Blue Mountains), Australia.

My day job is as a scientist, where I’m a neutron scatterer and cryomineral researcher. In a nutshell I chuck neutrons at materials, and see how they scatter to explore their crystal structures (hence the ‘crystallised’ bit). If you’re here for that check out the Science section of the site.

My current writing aspiration is to scribble a bit more about women’s cricket in Australia and beyond, though I have littered the internet and co-written one children’s book on science. This season (2025/26) I’ll be concentrating on writing about the Women’s National Cricket League, with occasional side trips to the precious Women’s test matches. If you’re here for that, check out the Writing section of the site.
