Hello, I’m Helen
I’m a writer and scientist based in Dharug and Gundgarra country (Blue Mountains), Australia.
My day job is as a scientist, where I’m a neutron scatterer and cryomineral researcher. In a nutshell I chuck neutrons at materials, and see how they scatter which enables me to explore their crystal structures (hence the ‘crystallised’ bit). If you’re here for that check out the Science section of the site.
My current writing aspiration is to cover women’s cricket in Australia and beyond, though I’ve written for a number of outlets on science topics and have co-written a children’s book on Pluto! This season (2025/26) I will be concentrating on covering the Women’s National Cricket League from grounds all around Australia, with a side trip to the precious Women’s test match. Check out the Writing section of the site to find out more on all this.
